Emancipation Park, Kingston, Jamaica (2002) |
The former site of the Liguanea Park race track is now home to Jamaica's Emancipation Park, celebrating their peaceful independence from England. The park includes three fountains, including the "Main Fountain", a large musically animated type, the Promenade Fountain", which are two reflecting pools on either side of the main promenade, and the "Entry Fountain", a divided semicircular pool surrounding the entry plaza and "Redemption Song" sculpture. The first of it's kind in Kingston, it's the pride of this capitol city. The fountain was designed and programmed by Formosa and equipped with submersible equipment. The Main Fountain is equipped with two 10hp and three 7½hp submersible three phase pumps driven by variable frequency drives. Control is by MediaMation Midi interface based show controllers, which allow analog control of the five display pumps and digital control of the 25 lighting circuits. The Midi interface allows the fountain to be "played" by hooking a Midi keyboard to the controller. The fountain is capable of 16m high displays even from the edge nozzles. The entire plaza area drains back to the fountain to reclaim the spray which doesn't fall back in the pool perimeter. |
The Promenade Fountain also utilises submersible equipment. There is an elevation change of about 1m from end to end, so the fountain includes three weirs / waterfalls to accommodate this elevation change. The Entry Fountain surrounds the entry plaza and is located on either side of the main gate. It incorporates Cascade type nozzles and lighting which illuminates not only the nozzles but the "Emancipation Park" signage as well. |
